I think it means that kobe is part of a secrete society, to me it looks like a upside down Mason logo.

I’d like to see that interview as well. A samurai helmet encircled by a basketball would have been cool. Not to dump on the guy, but I’m sure there’s a lot of BS involved, because there’s nothing in there that relates to Kobe, Samurai, sports *or* basketball. “Mantis” maybe, but I don’t remember that being one of his nicknames.

Kobe deserved better.

The ESPN story linked above features the following quote:

The shoe's designer, Eric Avar, says in an interview on the company's Web site that the mark is inspired by Japanese samurai warriors, who Avar says exhibit the balance of Bryant.

So, it sounds like you're right about the intent. I wish they'd linked the original interview with Eric Avar because I've never been able to find it. Honestly, I'm not quite sure how that image evokes samurai myself, but then I'm not an expert. Let me know if you find out anything more!

So there is no clear answer what kobes logo means? I heard it had to do with a japanese samuari sword holder/sheath? How can i find out the real meaning? I am considering getting it as a tattoo.
